Short week before Christmas break.

Monday- We will review the math benchmark with the most missed questions.

Tuesday and Wednesday-We will do a Christmas Math activity.

I hope you and your families have a restful and memorable Christmas break! I know I am looking forward to some time with my family.

See you all next year! School starts back on January 9, 2024!

Updated Thursday and Friday, November 1-2

Thursday will be a day to finish the unit 3 test or make corrections if necessary. I will try to update all grades this evening or in the morning. Also, to help with test grades, I am sending home a “take home” test. This will count as a test grade and is required! This test will be due on Monday, November 6.

Friday, we will start unit 4 with Ratios. Possibility of homework if not finished in class.

6th grade math is pretty tough! Lots of new rules to remember! They are learning so much and even if the grades don’t always show it.

Updated October 27 and 28

Thursday-We will make corrections on adding and subtracting integers quiz.

Friday-Notes and homework over multiplying and dividing integers.

Test will now be next Thursday or Friday over all operations with integers.

Test: Tomorrow, Thursday, October 12

Make sure your computers are charged for our test tomorrow in math! Positive Rational Numbers Unit Study guide is due tomorrow! You only have to do the circled numbers. 5 Bonus points on your test if you get your study guide signed.

The test will include multiplying and dividing decimals and multiplying and dividing fractions.

Any missing work is due by Friday. I have to get all grades turned in for the 9 week report cards.

October 10 Quiz

We have a quiz (Tuesday) on multiplying and dividing fractions.

You can practice on IXL or the google classroom assignment (if you didn’t finish it today).

If you need more practice or help, come see me at 7:30 in the morning.

Date Change for Quiz

I have decided to move the quiz to next Wednesday, September 9 instead of this Friday. The concepts we are working on are difficult and I need to make sure the students understand them better before the quiz.

We are working on comparing and ordering rational numbers. Rational numbers include fractions and decimals, positive and negative numbers. In order to be able to compare and order them, students have to change the numbers all to decimals which is a new concept. Also, working with negative numbers can be confusing, as well.

Week of August 21-25

6th grade math

Week 2 of school! I am looking forward to jumping into teaching all the math concepts your child will learn in 6th grade math. Homework will be as needed. Students will have opportunities to work on homework in class. If they don’t finish, they will need to take it home and finish by the next school day. It is the responsibility of each student to know whether or not they finished in class and therefore have homework.

Monday: Integers on a number line/6.2C/We will take notes and work practice problems together dealing with integers on a number line. Students will have homework if they don’t complete the homework page in class.

Tuesday: Comparing and Ordering Decimals/6.2C/We will take notes and work practice problems together comparing and ordering decimals. Students will have homework if they don’t complete the homework page in class.

Wednesday: Comparing and Ordering Fractions/6.2C/We will take notes and work practice problems together on comparing and ordering fractions.

Thursday: Ordering Rational Numbers/6.2C/We will take notes and work practice problems together on ordering rational numbers. Students will have homework if they don’t complete the homework page in class.

Week of August 15-18

Welcome back to school! I am so excited to start this middle school journey with the 6th graders! We will work together to navigate middle school. This week will be a week of getting to know each other, expectations, reviewing 5th grade math concepts, and just getting familiar with being in a new school.

6th Grade Math

Tuesday: We will organize supplies and get to know each other.

Wednesday: Add & Subtract Decimals/5.3K/10 word problems dealing with adding and subtracting decimals. Each word problem has two answers. Students will work out a problem and then analyze and justify which of the two answers are correct.

Thursday: Multiply 3 digit by 2 digit and divide 4 digit by 2 digit/5.3A; 5.3C/Mazes-Students will work the problem at the start then find the correct answer to determine the next problem they will work. As they work, they will work through the maze to the finish box.

Friday: Add and subtract fractions/5.3K; 5.3K/Scavenger Hunt- Students will begin at any letter and work that problem. After getting an answer, they look for that answer on a different card. They will continue in this way until they get back to the card where they started.

Meet The Teacher

Welcome back to school! I’m so excited to have you in my 6th grade math class!

A little about me:

My name is Mrs. Catherine Wilson. I am starting my 15 year teaching. Years ago, I taught 5th grade math here at White Oak. In 2008, I became a stay at home mom. In 2017, when my youngest started school, there wasn’t a job available at White Oak for me so I started teaching 3rd grade math in Hawkins. This year when the 6th grade math job became available, I was excited to have the opportunity to come back to White Oak! Go Roughnecks!

I am married and we have three children, Stephanie (10th grade), Grace (8th grade), and Micah (6th grade). They are excited to become roughnecks again!

I am looking forward to an amazing year teaching you math! See you on Tuesday!
